If you want to play on Xbox 360 or Xbox One consoles, make sure you have a portal of power specifically made to work for your console. Xbox One portals of power are likewise only compatible with Xbox One consoles. The Xbox 360 portals of power can only be used on an Xbox 360 console.
The "Traptanium Portal" from Skylanders Trap Team, or the "Wireless Portal of Power for Playstation 3" from Spyro's Adventure, are some examples of different names you might see. Portals may go by slightly different names, and some will specifically list a console that the portal was designed for.
Some portals only work on specific consoles. Turn your Portal of Power over, and look at the stickers on the bottom to see which console it is for.
